Description

The "Wellington Blown Away" sign was installed on the hillside near the airport in July of 2012 to welcome visitors to the city. The original plan to put up a "Wellywood" sign was met with fierce opposition from residents as cheesy and unoriginal, and a competition was held to find an alternative.
